THE AFTERNOON IS ACTION-PACKED!
We give the students the brightest, busiest and best holiday of their
lives. After a morning in the classroom, followed by lunch, students enjoy
the contrast of a physically active afternoon. A wide variety of sport
is on offer and children can enjoy, amongst other sports, football, tennis,
horse riding, basketball, volleyball, hockey, squash, laser war games,
boating on the river, ice skating, dry skiing, go-karting, table tennis,
swimming, ten pin bowling and so much more you would not believe it! Our
teaching staff have been chosen not only for their academic ability but
also for their versatility, and between them they expertly coach every
sport we play.
There is also a sports master who is responsible for the Sports programme
and for arranging regular competitions. For those who favour less energetic
pastimes, other activities are always available.
''The sports are fantastic' Ventura DuraIl (12) Spain
Hurtwood House is surrounded by a very large and beautiful campus. The
essentials are available on site to ensure that the course is successful
and popular. In addition, as part of their experience of England, we arrange
a number of outings for the students, all of which are carefully planned
and supervised. There are regular shopping trips to Guildford. Famous
houses and museums are visited, and there is the highlight of every week
the excursion to London on Friday afternoon. What other Summer School
offers a weekly, all expenses paid, trip to the capital? Students are
driven to London by staff in our own well-maintained fleet of mini buses.
Depending on their interests students may shop or choose from a list of
alternatives which includes Madame Tussaud's, The Natural History Museum,
Covent Garden, The Royal Academy and many others. An early dinner is followed
by a recently released film or a theatre in the heart of the West End.
It doesn't matter whether it is a trip to the local shops or to London,
parents can rest assured that their children will be safe as they are
always under the supervision and care of responsible staff.
AND EXCITING EVENING ENTERTAINMENT TOO!
You would think by now that the students are ready for bed not at all!
Somehow they find the extra energy from somewhere, and they must be catered
for! Once again a range of activities is available. For the more active,
sports continue. These often take the form of competitions in the evening.
Who will be this week's table tennis champion, or Brain of Hurtwood? Who
would like to go ice skating or Stock Car racing? Who would like to act,
dance or sing in our very own Theatre?
'The cabarets have been super.' Oliver Annen (16) Switzerland
Students
love the thrill of performing in front of their peers whether it be in
a Saturday night cabaret or play. Even those who would rather avoid the
limelight are keen to help with the lighting, costumes, scenery and so
on. Once again, there is a lively involvement, both in coaching behind
the scenes and performing on stage. You should have seen their dance routine
last year!
The Theatre is superbly equipped to professional standards with seating
for two hundred. This gives added atmosphere to performances which are
highly polished and immensely popular. It is a feature of the Hurtwood
House Summer Course that staff and students join in all that is happening.
Whether it is a lesson or a football match, a visit to Madame Tussaud's
or entertainment in the Theatre, you will find staff and students working,
playing and relaxing together. We believe it is this wholehearted commitment
to, and involvement in, the Summer Course on the part of everyone concerned
that makes it such an effective and enjoyable way to learn.
